Simple diagnosis – access to protected vehicle data
Secure Diagnostic Access (SDA) from Bosch provides you with a standardized solution for the diagnosis of modern vehicle electronics of different manufacturers.
Protection of vehicle electronics
Modern vehicle electronics are increasingly threatened by tampering and hacking attacks. More and more vehicle manufacturers, therefore, protect access to the diagnostic data of their new vehicle models. As a result, car repair shops no longer have full access to vehicle electronics. Instead, where available, they must first obtain access again via the respective manufacturer-specific gateways and payment concepts.
SDA for independent repair shops
Many vehicle manufacturers have different access requirements and payment concepts for accessing their vehicle data. As a consequence, the access process can be particularly challenging for independent car repair shops. To counteract this issue, Bosch has developed Secure Diagnostic Access (SDA), a central, integrated and standardized solution, which allows easy access to protected vehicle electronics. Diagnosis can thus be carried out in full, just like before, with the usual functions of ESI[tronic] 2.0 Online.
Vehicle diagnostics with one-time login
SDA enables central access to the various participating manufacturer solutions by using the SingleKey ID (former BoschID). This consists of an e-mail address of the repair shop employee and a password. Registration for the personal SingleKey ID is free of charge and only required once. What's more, the ID can not only be used for SDA, but also for other Bosch applications, both professionally and privately, e.g., for booking technical training courses at Bosch Service Training Centers or for smart home applications.
*For subscriptions and in participating countries.
Advantages of SDA in ESI[tronic] 2.0 Online
Secure Diagnostic Access from Bosch pools the various individual solutions of the participating vehicle manufacturers.
Instead of separate diagnostic devices and licenses for each manufacturer, only the SingleKey ID and a one-time online user identification is required.
After initial registration of the SingleKey ID, no further registration is required for the respective manufacturer portals.
The time and cost savings of the new function ensure that multi-make car repair shops stay efficient and competitive.
When will SDA be available in ESI[tronic] 2.0 Online?
SDA as part of ESI[tronic] 2.0 Online has been available since summer 2021. SDA is being expanded continuously to make sure you're always up to date.
Does this mean I have more functions in ESI[tronic] 2.0 Online?
Yes, thanks to SDA, ESI[tronic] 2.0 Online now also contains access to protected diagnostic data of all makes, which are available via SDA both currently (e.g. Mercedes-Benz, Fiat, Volkswagen Group), and in the future.
In addition, ESI[tronic] 2.0 Online contains maintenance plans and circuit diagrams for more than 1 000 000 real application cases/vehicle combinations, depending on the individual license and package.
Which makes can be unlocked with SDA?
Makes of Ford Motor Company, Mercedes-Benz AG, Porsche AG, Volkswagen AG (VAG) and of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), e.g.:
- Alfa Romeo
Individual solutions of the vehicle manufacturers
For vehicles of the Renault Group (Renault, Dacia) protected by a security gateway, registration on the ASOS website is required.
At present, ESI[tronic] single licenses (OTP licenses), test licenses or licenses for educational establishments are not available for SDA and in some countries.
When is SDA planned for other manufacturers?
Bosch keeps in constant contact with the vehicle manufacturers. The ESI[tronic] 2.0 Online diagnostic software is continuously updated and enhanced with new features, such as working on protected diagnostic access with SDA.
How does SDA registration work?
To be able to use Secure Diagnostic Access, repair shop employees must register once to receive their personal SingleKey ID free of charge. Using their SingleKey ID, consisting of e-mail address and individually selected password, employees can then access protected diagnostic data via SDA. The personal SingleKey ID enables use of the diagnostic data on all makes that can be accessed via SDA.
To access protected data of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, one more process step is required on top of the SingleKey ID. After logging in with the personal SingleKey ID, users are offered an online user identification process, similar to the one required for opening an online bank account. This is only required once in order to access the protected Mercedes-Benz data. The user is guided through the process step-by-step.
