High voltage
The ignition coil must withstand voltage peaks of up to 40,000 volts.
Temperature differences
The ignition coil is exposed to extreme temperature differences from -40 °C to 140 °C.

The direct mounting on the engine results in forces of up to 30 g.
Corrosion
Gasoline, oil and water splash challenge the ignition coil materials.

From the first magneto ignition in 1897 to today's ignition coil

The magneto ignition system sparked the breakthrough of the internal combustion engine, paving the way for Bosch to become a global automotive supplier. This technology is still symbolized today by the stylized armature within the Bosch logo. -
This was followed by constant technological progress: contact-controlled ignition with a mechanical breaker, then the leap to electronics with transistor ignition and finally the highly efficient coil direct ignition, which assigns a separate coil to each cylinder. -
Today, Bosch offers its customers an extensive range of ignition coils for almost every application – from classic cars to hybrid vehicles.
