The Bosch Evo Spark Plug was specially developed for the harsh environment inside turbocharged engines with direct gasoline injection. These engines operate at very high pressures, often reaching the “knock limit”. However, extreme knocking events, known as mega knocking, can also occur.

Mega Knocking

In turbocharged engines with direct gasoline injection, extreme knocking events (mega knocking) can occur. These spontaneous self-ignition events are often caused by

  • unburnt fuel residues
  • smallest particles from returned gases

The pressure in the cylinder can increase so much that an unfavorable piston position can lead to engine damage. The Bosch EVO spark plug is therefore particularly robustly designed for use in such engines.
