In the city, in traffic jams or at red traffic lights the vehicles are stationary for most of the time with their engine idling unnecessarily. The Start-stop system automatically switches the engine off when the vehicle is at a standstill and restart the engine immediately, as soon as the driver lifts his foot off the brake or disengages the clutch. Start-stop systems thus turn off the engine at red traffic lights or in traffic jams. The primary goal of start-stop systems is to save fuel. The Start-stop starters have an optimised design, which enables the starter motor to cope with more frequent starting over the vehicle lifetime. These starters are equipped with specially modified components to withstand continuous start stop cycles, without wearing of components or overheating. Start-stop starters mostly use needle bearings. In addition, these starters are equipped with spring suspended pinion with increased number of teeth, improved planetary gears and a reinforced engaging mechanism. They have longer carbon brushes and improved commutator with increased durability to ensure high electric performance.
