Fluttering ribbed V-belts, unevenly running belt tensioners, increased engine noise and vibrations can indicate defective dampers. The torsional vibration damper should be checked during major inspections. Check for cracks, detachment and deformation of the elastomer track. Some pulleys are equipped with indicators that show wear.
