Made of spiral tungsten wire, is made to glow by an electric current so that it emits light. Its position is precisely standardized.
Glass bulb with halogen gas filling
The glass bulb made of quartz or tempered glass filters UV radiation and withstands high temperatures. The halogen gas filling enables a higher operating temperature of the filament and leads to a higher light output.
Service life
Approximately 550 hours.
Base
Connects the bulb to the vehicle electrics and is exactly standardized, e.g. H4, H7.

Glass bulb with xenon gas and halide filling
The glass bulb made of quartz glass contains a mixture of xenon gas and halides (metal salts). This ensures stabilization of the light arc and a high light output.
Electrodes
High voltage creates an electric light arc between the electrodes, the gas begins to glow due to the ionization of the particles and produces an intense light. An electrical ballast provides increased starting current to accelerate the ionization of the particles.
Color temperature
Cool white light with a color temperature of 4,000 to 6,000 Kelvin.

LED chip
Light emitting diodes are semiconductor components that emit light when current flows through them (electroluminescence). They are positioned in exactly the same location as the filament in halogen bulbs.
Cool white light with a color temperature of 5,000 - 6,000 Kelvin.

Cooling element
The cooling element dissipates the heat from the LED chips, passively with cooling fins or actively with a fan.
The light output of the bulb can be impaired by touching it with your bare hands. The bulb can also be very hot and cause burns. Therefore, always wear gloves or use a soft cloth when replacing the vehicle bulbs.
If one vehicle bulb is defective, the other should be replaced at the same time, as a failure of the second lamp is probable and a second visit to the workshop can therefore be avoided.
Automotive bulbs wear out over time and therefore lose their luminosity. Bosch recommends replacing them every 2 years on average.
