How the air conditioning system works

The arrows indicate the direction of refrigerant flow. Red represents high pressure and blue low pressure. Solid lines represent the liquid state, while dashed lines represent the gaseous state. The blue triple arrows pointing upwards symbolize airflow, and the gray arrows represent air flow into the interior.

The special function of air conditioning systems in electric vehicles

In electric cars, the air conditioning system supports thermal management

The entire air conditioning system will play an important role in the thermal management of electric vehicles in the future. Previously used only for interior cooling, the air conditioning circuit will in future also be used to cool the powertrain components of hybrid and electric vehicles. This keeps the battery, electric motor, and power electronics within the optimum temperature range to ensure reliable operation. Well-functioning thermal management is therefore becoming increasingly important and has a positive effect on range, fast charging and a high level of climate comfort.

Test equipment, spare parts, accessories and service

In addition to the new A/C components, Bosch already has air conditioning service units, oils for the compressor and accessories in its range for maintaining air conditioning systems. The Bosch training program also includes a qualification certificate for air conditioning technology. Bosch thus offers parts, test equipment and service for the maintenance and repair of air conditioning systems from a single source.

Tips for working around the air conditioning system

A Bosch cabin filter is replaced in the workshop during the air conditioning service

Change cabin filter during A/C service

For the best possible air quality in the vehicle interior, each air conditioning service should include a replacement of the cabin filter. In addition, Bosch recommends changing the cabin filter once a year or every 15,000 km.

Bosch flushing kit components for the air conditioning system

Flush the system

If the compressor fails, flushing the air conditioning system is the first thing to do. This removes foreign particles from the system that could impair efficient operation. For this purpose, Bosch offers a flushing kit in its accessory program that was developed together with the most important vehicle manufacturers.

Bosch air conditioning component dryer

Changing the dryer

After opening the air conditioning circuit, it is strongly recommended to change the dryer.

As the dryer absorbs moisture from the ambient air when it is opened, it quickly becomes saturated and can no longer fulfill its filter function in the system.

Determine oil quantity

All Bosch compressors are prefilled with oil, whereby the amount of oil in the compressor is determined based on a wide range of vehicles. For certain applications, the amount of oil in the new compressor may therefore be slightly adjusted (increased or decreased), depending on the total amount of oil in the air conditioning system.
